I have the privilege of repairing a friends vintage lap steel. I think the pickup is screwed. How do I make sure? I have taken everything apart and checked that the pots and caps are fine.
I checked on the net about pickup testing and they say you should test in impedance of the pickup. This pickup is giving 500kOhm. It should be between 0.5 and 20kOhm according to the sites I checked. There is a faint sound coming out, but a small amp cranked still doesn't give much of a sound.
It is an epiphone electar century lap steel (made 1939-1949).
Any help would be great! Also, is it possible to get the pickup rewound or something like that? I want to keep it as original as possible.
