POD XT Live Pedal bought from USA - Power Supply Problem

I just received POD XT Live multi-effect pedal from USA.

The power supply is 120V AC 60HZ so I can't use it here.

What is the best way around this??

Can I buy one from a music store in SA that is 220V?

What is the output on that power supply? Or the required input on the pedal? For example:
"15volts DC center negative 750ma"

It will be easier than you think. For power hungry devices like big tube amps its more of a mission... BUT still possible.

You can:
- try Marshall Music (their parent company is the distributor) for the proper Line 6 supply
- use a stepdown transformer (230V - 110V) with the US supply - most electrical shops will have these.
- look around for another supply with the same specs but a 230 V input (you might also have to change the DC plug for the one on the Line 6 supply and possibly even reverse the polarity).

ryanguit: On the back of the item it says "Power Requirements: 9V AC 2000mA minimum". Do you perhaps have experience powering a similar sort of overseas item?

Alan: Thank you so much. I'll visit JHB Marshall Music in Woodmead today. Hopefully it won't be too expensive ☹(( Otherwise I'll try a stepdown transformer - maybe I can find one small enough...

I had a pod XT live that a forum member sent me with a power adapter as it came from the USA. Using the adapter was basic. Would power up no problem and they're cheap.........R180-00.

ok its not perfect but you will find this sortof supply fairly easily once you find the right company. Bidorbuy? haha couldn't believe it myself.

I bought one from Zakspeed... It's the same 9V 2000ma power output..

POD XT switches on but there was no sound. So I googled a bit and found out: The Line 6 original power supply is AC input and AC output. This one from Zakspeed is AC input and DC output, so there is no sound coming out even though the pedal switches on ☹(( apparently it's quite harmful to use DC current on pedal that accepts AC current.

The power supply in bidorbuy is also DC output so it will be able to power the pedal but there will be no sound coming out.

Is there anybody who is using US version of POD XT Live?? I'm searching on the net but I can't find a local power supply that does AC input AC output at 9V 2000mA..

Yeah, strangely enough, that's often what they mean by 9V AC 2,000 mA. 9V. AC. 2A. ?

Check out the Meanwell power supplies from Mantech: http://www.mantech.co.za/ - far better than a Zakspeed PSU anyway (which I wouldn't trust to power a doorbell).

Yes, I've had 4 different Pods all from the USA.
Each time I walked into Zakspeed (I live down the road) and bought a cheap little black adaptor (looks like a double adaptor), which worked perfectly for all the years I owned the Pods.

You bought the wrong adaptor, go into Marshall music and ask Stuart to walk with you to Zakspeed and get the correct one.

The only Pods which don't need adaptors are the HD series, it's the same power supply worldwide, it works with any voltage.

Alan: I went to the Mantech website - there are some 9v 2A output power supplies but they are all DC output.. but thanks for the info.

Tokai SA: Thanks, that sounds hopeful! I thought maybe they don't have AC output adapters. I'll go to Marshall and Zakspeed again today. This time I'm taking my headphones and the guitar as well just to make sure! I would have loved to get one of the POD XT HD's as I have read on many forums that they sound far superior. Maybe I should save up some bux and get an HD500 later on.

Thats way cheap..but then I noticed its a vdc...he requires 9vac 2amp,same as digitech mfxs,Korg multitrackers etc etc
My guess R400 upwards and electronic places dont sell 2amp ac units under R600+
I would probably look for an old line 6 mfx or some mfx unit that comes with a compatible power supply on gumtree for the same price
Old nintendo p/s are 9vac 1.5a,will still work fine,check polarity but ive used one on an Alesis SR 16 drum machine and a Digitech GNX4 without any probs of overheating etc etc
The actual amperage required is much lower than actual amperage recommended/on p/s unit
The main culprits of burnt out under current p/s are ambient temperatures and actual current used by unit for a lengthy period of time,
ie: smaller 1a p/s run hotter when overloaded too much in very hot climates...
So for average 2hr+ jams all cool on even the small amp units,but leaving it on for 8hrs+ and going out for dinner and leaving the thing on is a no no

I went back to Zakspeed. There is a technician there who can change the unit from DC output to AC output. Unfortunately the adapter which I got had option of changing from 3 - 12V and this caused a problem to try and change to AC output. They unfortunately didn't have the 9V only 2A adaptor in stock so instead I purchased a step-down transformer (which was not too big). The owner was kind enough to give me the transformer at the same price as the adapter (at R300).
