Trust me, most guitar forums can't even put out a ratio, because a ratio demands something on both sides. This is probably the only guitar forum on the internet in which the moderators are intolerant of sexism or harassment of female members. That's why it's 13.1:1 and not 65,783:1.

That ratio reflects total membership, not active membership. I'd imagine that it would be quite different for, say, members who have posted more than once (excluding classifieds) in the last 6 months.

Ah! That ratio only takes into account those that declare their gender. It's not uncommon for a woman to leave the info out or purposely misrepresent themselves as male (for the obvious reasons).

No, while these terms could be seen as simple slang usage rather than full-blown derogatory comments, I'm going to continue publicly poking fun (in my personal capacity rather than my official one) at members who use them too easily.

Curious - in the social circles I've been a part of (containing both men and women before anyone asks), referring to a woman as "chick" is not nearly as demeaning as is being portrayed in this thread. Will keep that in mind when I visit CT or Jhb. ?

Context is important. The women I know use the term "chick" pretty freely without any derogatory intent. But saying "I wanna score me some chicks" is a pretty common kind of thing to hear, although the objectification of women in that statement actually has little to do with the word "chick" in isolation.
