OK... so this Saturday I'm off to see one
Laura Gibson at Wits. Now, I don't actually know very much about Ms Gibson, indeed I know about zilch. She is recommended by people whose opinions I mostly trust. Tickets R200 a pop - obviously less than one is going to pay to see, say, Justin Bieber (stand up and be counted, Shreddy Smurf) or Lady Gaga or Metallica. And since the Wits Theatre is a tad smaller than Soccer City I expect to be closer to the action and more comfortably seated.
So here's what I'm curious about: How much would you pay to see a high-class local act (say Steve Newman and Tony Cox, who I saw last time they toured together and who were fab) or an interesting international act who is not a household name? Or would you even bother? Would you just keep on stuffing the piggy bank until AC/DC come to town?
As a very rough starting point, I paid about 210 per head (including booking charges and forex charges) to see Martin Simpson in the UK earlier this year.
