i have done it before with a bandsaw and a jig around it to cut the wood straight, my wood was 20mm thick, and i just carefully pushed it through to keep it straight, i didn't have much saw marks (lucky me) and just had it planned and drum sanded, came out nice, but you are gonna need a friend to help keep it steady if you go that route.
Knowing someone with skills is important.
Manny demonstrated the technique above to me.
Simple when you see it - but you probably won't think of it yourself
The right blade is also important.
The thicker the wood you cut, the
fewer teeth per inch.
The spaces between the teeth are needed to carry away the sawdust.
My intuition went the other way - I incorrectly thought that you wanted more teeth per inch if you wanted a finer finish.
