Hi.
This is my first time posting to this site. I wonder if anyone could provide the pros and cons of a setup that I will use for live (with a band) and alone (with backing tracks). I play an Ibanez AS53 guitar through a Roland Jazz Chorus 120.
The setup I am trying to create is as follows:
Guitar -> Wah -> Compressor -> MI Blue Boy Deluxe Overdrive -> Boss SD-1 -> EQ pedal (booster/tone shaping) -> V Amp 2 (amp models and/or modulation and time-based effects) -> Guitar Amp or PA System. I will bypass the V Amp 2 preamp when using the JC-120. This way I will have a flexible pedalboard setup for live use and one man setups.
Does anyone use a similar setup? The idea is to have individual effect pedals for overdrive/distortion before the multi-effect unit. I recently sold a Boss GT-6 to because I just couldn't get used to the overdrive/distortion sounds on that unit.

Yeah - I've done that, using pedals in front of a modeller. I still occasionally use my favourite drive in front of my Eleven Rack/G-System. Works well enough, but you are at the mercy of whatever you are monitoring with.

Thanks Alan. I intend to slave a speaker to act as a monitor in the PA setup. Or should I rather get a dedicated monitor? I have played with a modeller into a PA System before and didn't make provision for a monitor. Dumb but that's how I learn.

A dedicated monitor is always best as it keeps the control of your stage sound with you the way an amp does. Going to the desk first and relying on foldback from the house desk puts you at the mercy of the engineer and any limitations in the monitor system and mix. With a dedicated monitor you can also tweak your sounds accurately at home or in the band practice room and just have to tweak gross EQ for the stage.
