Jazzmaster / Jaguar String Jump and Buzz

I own a fairly new MIJ Jazzmaster and a Pre CBS Jag. The Jazzmaster was part of a trade and I opted to install SD pu's and tried to live with the high action that helped slightly with both buzz and string jump on the bridge. The string jump was especially bad when agressively finger plucking. (Try playing Broken Wings with emotion and it was bad)

Thanks to Google and Ebay I read about a couple of solutions; an expensive Master bridge, a Mustang bridge that has no height adjustment or a buzz stop roller that was also supposed to stop string jump. I ordered the buzz stop out of NY, $27.00 + $4.50 shipping from Ebay and when it finally arrived yesterday, R52 for duty, all in all about R320 and a 5 week wait.

The buzz stop was easy to install and believe it or not it works! Looks a bit weird, but I don't really care too much about that. After installing it and a set of 10's, I set up the action and intonation. The guitar is like having had a big truck and finally getting the power steering working. The action is nice and comfortable, actually it's like a diffferent guitar.

For the money the Buzz Stop is a good deal and I recommend it.

Ps The Jag behaves usually except for a bit of intermittent buzz. Think the old fender bridges must have been a bit better than the new attempts at probably the worst bridge ever designed.

I have to agree. Such a terrible system.

Does the buzz stop affect the tone of the guitar at all?
