Squonk I have enrolled at Berklee for a free online course on Songwriting. Starts on the 1st March 2013 for 6 weeks. Could be good stuff! https://www.coursera.org/course/songwriting

evolucian Cool on doing the songwriting course from berklee. I thought you were wanting to write instrumentals but I see its all lyric based without too much emphasis on the music side. But it still sounds cool nonetheless. Good luck. Like others have said, it is something that can only be practiced and practiced some more. Doing music once a week or once a month will not help one at all. Anyways, good luck again.

vic "What the world needs now...." ? are those great pro song writers....many of these were not performers, they wrote songs...the good stuff...the timeless stuff. Guys like Burt Bacharach,Ben Weisman, Wally Gold, Doc Pumas, Otis Blackwell,Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller and many more....between them they must have composed 100's of top twenty songs...most of which are still remembered today. Song writing is a skill not to be gauged lightly.
Sneaky-Pete Talking about song attempts that have been scribbled and then thrown away... In the early 60s a singer whose name you know was staying with friends in New York. One morning he worked on a song for an hour then threw it in the basket and went out. The wife of the friend he was staying with, went to clean out the basket, found the song attempt and kept it until the songwriter came back. She said: I found this in the trash... you really ought to finish it.... OK, said the singer and spent the next 5 minutes finishing Mr Tambourine Man....
