I think the best way to do this is a start to end approach, plus I don't have pic's of all my stuff. So here goes. This is a pic of the first 2 guitars I bought 3 years ago. The acoustic is an Ibanez Talman which I bought secondhand and the electric is a Squier Black and Chrome Fat Stratocaster® (Special Edition). It sounded really great and even though it was made in Indonesia, I've gotten tons of compliments on the build quality. I sold the Talman to my nephew last year and gave the Strat to one of the guitarists at our church. They were great while I owned them, but we all have to move on sometime.

I had them on backorder with Andy's for a year and a half. Geez dude, my whole board is only 22 right angled connectors!
You can't really use another kind of cable with it except for the Lavacable pedal cable or the Bill Lawrence cable. It's because of the size of the internal workings of the connector. They're all very much the same sort of stiffness though.

Is yours the .225 or .155 cable?

It's the .155 cable. I'm down to a 5 loop bypass strip (More for ease of turning stuff off and on than for TB) and I've reduced the number of pedals as much as I could, but I still ended up with the following chain :

Korg Pitch Black Tuner -> Cusack Screamer -> Keeley Comp (Still Looking for one) -> PB1 -> Wah Probe -> TS-9 -> Box of Rock -> MXR Zakk wylde OD -> Visual Volume -> Cusack Tap-A-Whirl -> Flanger (Still looking for one) -> Nova Delay -> BBE Mind Bender -> DD-5 -> ISP Decimator

I might drop a od or 2 depending on what I'm going to be doing. I just wanted to cater for max so I have the real estate, power and connectivity should I need it on my board. Now if only I could get some skill at a good price ... ?

That is a bit of an excessive pedal board Joey, although I can't really talk (I've had far more on a board myself in the past ?)!

Yeah, the cable is a bit stiff, but once you've got it cut and routed in between the pedals it's OK as long as you don't do too much plugging in and out. The cables bends at the jacks don't like that too much. Make sure that if you do have to pull the cables out, that you hold the jack and don't pull too much on the cable itself. But you're not going to change too many pedals out, right? ? Seriously though, I've had no issues and all the guys I know using them haven't had problems, as long as you take care of 'em.
You will notice a much brighter and clearer tone than you had before, with a slight thinning of the bass. As long as you EQ accordingly, it's a definite improvement (especially compared to those cheap patch cords you used before) over most cables.

Have you tested that setup yet or is it still theory? With that many TB relays in your chain, your signal will probably sound quite muffled. As we've spoken about before, put something like the Radial Power Booster in front of everything to "push" the signal through the relays and cables. Even if you don't use the boost part of it, the buffer will bring your tone back to life.

Apart from the extra drives, I use everything else. I guess I could slim down a bit.

Just theory for now. I've put the PB1 early in the chain so I can use it's buffer function and I might move the Visual volume to the end. Haven't had time to play with the setup too much yet. Been a bit too busy with work and other things.

That PB-1 in front and the VV at the end (like you said) in active mode will probably be your best best.

Maybe I should reveal my current pedal board (don't think I've ever told):
VOX Brit Boost (soon to be replaced by Baja Boost Custom) > Radial Bigshot EFX Dual Looper (soon 2 U/G with LEDs)
Loop 1 - Dunlop Crybaby Classic with Fasel (soon to have an LED) > Catalinbread Ottava Magus (yet to arrive - got lost in shipping) > MI Audio Blues Pro
Loop 2 - MI Audio Neo Fuzz > Zoom Ultra Fuzz
Out into Visual Sound Visual Volume > Korg AX3000G for EFX not amp modelling (Sometimes in amp effects loop, depending on amp).

That's my current and umpteenth setup. Pretty happy with it at the moment. I'm into making my own, unique tones these days - high-gain fuzz & smooth OD tones basically (two stark contrasts) and crazy effects - and these pedals help me do that.

Check out the Maxon CP-9 Pro+ Compressor. From what I've read it really is one of the very best.

If you're interested in compressors, check out Bongomania from the TalkBass forums' compressor reviews. He's played just about anything compressor-wise you can possibly think of, obviously on bass, but his observations apply to guitar as well IMO.

I love it. I like the fact that it has separate drive and fuzz controls. You can get TS tones and on the flip side you can crank the fuzz and go Hendrix.

Thanks for the info on the Compressors. I've been wondering if I really need it.

Next on the list (which is incredibly long) is a JSX head and either Laney or Mesa 2x12 rig for cleans.

Thanks ? yeah I plan on running a stereo rig with two heads and two cabs, but a 2x12 instead of 4x12 for convenience.

Quick update.

My new board project is about 80% there. I've rationalised it down to a 700mm x 600mm board. I'm going to see a guy who does metal work next week to build the case/board for me. Will let you guys know what the cost comes to.

Take the tires off and it could be one of the more outrageous models in the Ibanez or BC Rich line ups.
