Ok, so where was I. Errrmmm, I think lets go with this one. Here's a pic of my Gretsch Rancher Junior Acoustic. I bought this one of ebay (Where else ;D ) about 2 years ago. I love this guitar cause I'm a small guy and it doesn't make look like a twelve year old on stage. It looks awesome. The strings it came with were really dull and bassy, so I put elixirs on it and it turned into a whole other animal. It's a bit sharp but works well when playing in the band. You can actually hear the chords I play and not just some feint strumming in the background.

Next is my favorite and most used guitar right now. I bought this after hearing the awesome sounds Nigel Hendroff gets from it. I guess his effects have something to do with it as well ?

It's a Gretsch 6218 Duo Jet. I bought it off ebay (Once again !).

It didn't come with a case so I had to buy that separately (I picked up a brand new one for a good price of one of the ebay stores). I also bought a bigsby so that it would match the 6218T spec (Should I bother saying where I got that from). I had it fitted at Andy McGibbons - They're a bit expensive but they do great work.I don't have a new pic of it, but heres what it basically looks like with the bigsby installed.

It eventually ended up costing about R9500 with bigsby, fitment and setup. I have seen them go for less on ocassion, but most of those deals were US buyers only.

I have to say I've been fortunate to be able to afford the stuff I have. Working in IT does have it's perks. In hindsight my journey has been a bit of a hit and miss. Wait till you hear my effects story ... When I first started I listened to advice from a lot guys who were either one track minded or just plain clueless. I won't buy another piece of equipment without researching it properly and testing it for myself. I was very fortunate with the Duo Jet. It suits me perfectly. Really easy to play, not too light like some strats and not as heavy as a Gibson and I can get pretty close to either's tone.

I'll only sell it if I get a good deal on a early 50's duo jet. Other than that it's my precious ...

The thing is, you cant go wrong with a gretch jet. Its just and awesome instrument, the thing is if you dont like that sound its your issue. The gretch + mild overdrive + delay is one of the most amazing sounding instruments you will ever find. If you play in a church band, nothing will ever come close to your ( on electric guitar that is ), i will deliver on the sound they want every time ( just go listen to hillsongs and hillsongs london ).

I'm a big fan of Nigel Hendroff and Michael Guy Chislett. They are very different in their style, but I love the sound they get from their gretsch guitars. I don't have the fancy effects they have so I make do with what I have. We did "Moving Forward" from the Free Chapel live recording last week. The tone I got was spot on for the rhythm parts and I play through a marshall solid state at church (Too lazy to lug my amp around).

Francis, if you're interested, checkout our youth band's myspace site. They've just got it setup and are gonna be uploading some of the live recordings they've done over the last couple of weeks. They've walked a long hard road and it looks like things are coming together nicely for them. They are planning on recording an album sometime this year so we're rallying support for them.

Cool i will have a look bones, btw bones if you know of any churches that needs guitarists please let me know. I dont really session at churches for the money, but more for the experience, the more you gig the better you get. 1 gig in my opinion is worth 15 days of practise in my opinion, and the best thing i love about giging at church is, i can praise and worship in the way i like, making music, jumping around and just going insane ?

Where abouts are your church ? Im commited to the bands tho, i dont just do the gig and disapear, i like being a part of the churches culture and youth. I believe im more of a youth minister that does ministry through music than an actual session musician.

Our church is in Kibler Park. You should come checkout it out sometime. We have 3 services on a Sunday.
8:15a.m., 10:30a.m. and an evening service at 18:30 which we using to focus more on the Praise and worship needs of the youth.

I've got some time on my hands, so let me continue my post frenzy ;D

I got really frustrated with not being able to get the Korg configured correctly so I hoped on my favourite shopping site and a few weeks later I bought this Line6 POD XT Live.

I used this for about a year and then I decided to switch to stomp boxes instead. I don't know if it was inexperience with multi effects or the fact that they aren't all they're cracked up to be, but I just couldn't get the sound I wanted from it.

I went though a few pedal board iterations. Here are some pics.

My current board is composed of just the basics. I'll take a pic and post it tomorrow.

I also had the pod XT live. Its an awesome multiFX pedal and in my opinion the PODXT range is the best there is. The issue is, that it is also very complex and its for a real session musician that knows for a month before hand what sounds he will need for a gig and takes ages to get the sounds required. You can get every single sound you will ever need from it but its just too much of an effort, i ended up swapping the POD XT live for my jap photoflame strat. haha

I got a bit frustrated with the software. I realized recently that in most cases, less is more. And my current rig does the job just fine (When I'm not botching the settings up ;D )

My nephew plays lead and he uses the following pedals :

BOSS DD-3 (sometimes hi-jacks my DD-5 when he needs to layer delays for some of the hillsong united stuff)

He bought a Blues Driver last year, but he hasn't used it since he got the Tube Screamer. He doesn't own his own amp and does most of his practices unplugged. He say it's made him a better lead player cause the effects aren't their to hide his mistakes.

He really wants an old Fender Twin Reverb, but we can't find one at a good price, when we find them.
