Amp cab: online purchase or alternative suggestions
Paddy
I recently bought a Egnater Tweaker 15watt Head recently on a trip to the USA. Got a good deal and was small enough to fit in my case for the trip back.
So needless to say i didn't buy the matching cab ?
Been plugging an old Marshall MG's 100 watt speaker into the Tweaker. It works well enough, but now i'm wondering. Shouldn't i get a proper cab?
The online place i've found that will ship the Tweaker cab is Thomann.de. 350 Euro including shipping.
Musiciansfriend and Guitar Centre (where i bought the amp) in the USA won't ship that product to SA, I'm guessing export restrictions from the manufacturer.
Does anyone know of another place that will be able to ship to SA?
The other option is for me to look at a cab that might work well with the Tweaker. But my logic is, that if Bruce Egnater designed a amp with a cab that goes with it, it wasn't just willy nilly. That they sound good together.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
rikus
The tweaker cab comes with a Celestion G12H30 and it really does sound good with it and works with all three voicings. There are many many threads over at The Gear Page and Rig-Talk talking about speaker selection for the tweaker 15.
Maybe do some research on speakers and then you can see what the speaker cabs available locally are loaded with. Something like a 12" Jensen C12N 50watt would probably be available locally in some sort of cab. You can also get a hold of a 12" Greenback in a Vox night train cab for example...
Speaker choice would also depend on which voicing of the amp you prefer... I use the US Fendery voicing a lot and one speaker may sound good with that but then not when using the more middy AC voicing...
Best bet would probably be to take your head and go try out a bunch of cabs at a store...

Hey Rikus. Your right. Will have to try out a few cabs to see what fits. I also leave the tweaker permanently on the Fender voicing ?
By the way Rikus. It was the stock Ruby tubes that fried that resistor and burnt out the sockets. They were faulty.
Thought of my getting a Fender Superchamp X2 12" cab and using that and later upgrading the speaker(generally not good reviews on that speaker). However I thought that because the Superchamp is a amp the covers different amp sounds(voicings) that it might work with the tweaker that also tries to cover different amps. And so the Vox cab might work to. Will have to do some research and my next trip up to Jhb will take the amp with to try some cabs.
Going to look into Exsanguitor's suggestion as well. Might be cheaper then buying a cab now and later replacing the speaker.
Thanks

If Egnater won't ship to SA it probably means that someone has acquired the local distribution rights. (Does anybody perhaps know who?) Maybe they can give you a better deal. Although I doubt you will get it cheaper than Thomann it might be wort a shot....

Chris77. I contacted Egnater directly in July this year just before I went and bought the amp in the US. Wanted to find out if I could buy it in SA before I take on the hassle of getting the amp back home. They told my there wasn't a distributer for Egnater in SA. I don't know if someone has taken on the distribution in the mean time.
But someone should seriously think about doing it. They are incredible amps. And Bruce Egnater even has some of his designs used by other manufacturers. Randall amps being one of them.
