Wow. Outshined was the first song where I was even aware of Dropped D. I remember seeing/hearing a 3-second clip of it when they were Grammy nominees and thinking WTF was that?!?!? Brilliant riff, and it's not even like I went on to become a big Soundgarden fan.

I can't actually think of anything to top Outshined now, but what I was thinking before I saw what you'd posted was Velvet Revolver's Slither. Wicked riff.

Collective Soul's Why Pt2 barely even qualifies as a riff (surely you have to use your left hand at least a little?! ? ) but at kicks ass! A real krank-it opening.

Not a huge Muse fan but it always amazes me how they manage to sound like a 7 piece band!

This might make me a terrible person, but one of my favourite drop D riffs of all time is one by my band. (For what it's worth, I didn't write it...) It's a ~90 bpm alt-metal pedal riff in the Ukrainian minor scale... god I could just about wet myself with excitement every time we get to that part.

I have an unmixed recording (with some slight timing issues) at home. I just might post a little snippet later.
