Progress!
Had a very productive couple of days recently and the build is taking shape!
Body ready for joining
Top ready for joining
Top being joined. Some sinker lead in the middle keeping everthing nice and flat.
and the body...
Result! Joins look good.
My two templates
Drilling out as much wood as possible...
Cavities routed clean. Discovered a knot in the middle of the wood right under the f-hole. Filled it up with super glue. I'm choosing to see it as a feature that it's visible through the f-hole. ?
and body shape rough cut. It's starting to look like a guitar! 8)
The drilling and routing is extremely messy work... felt like I inhaled a handful of sawdust...
Work starting on the top
Drilling out the f-hole
This was nerve wracking stuff, but I'm please with the result. Not perfect, but I'm happy.
Body shape being routed... also fairly scary process...
and done!
a little message for the cavity (which we realized afterwards is going be routed out for the control panel cover...)
Attack of the clamps!!!
At the moment it's weighing just under 1.9kg and we still need to trim the top and cut the pickup routes and neck pocket, so it should be a nice light guitar when done! It's been super fun thus far. Scary/nerve wracking at times, but we're learning a ton as we go (5mm perspex is too thin for a template, buy the best router bits you can find etc etc). I can see how you can get hooked on building these things.
Progress now halts until I receive the rest of the hardware...
