It's done. At. Last.
More than a year in the making, but it's finally done. I strung her up yesterday and I am over the moon!
This weekend we finally managed to beat that black finish into submission. The key to it all ended up being patience. If you think you've waited long enough for the paint to dry, wait longer. If you think you've wetsanded enough to move onto the next grit of paper, sand longer. If you think you've polished enough, polish longer. It has been a study in patience, but we managed to conquer our own natures and in the end it was worth it... enough talking... let me finally show her to you!! :goodtimes:
Sanding, polishing and cleaning done... time for assembly
Reflection!
Ferrules in
Bridge and pickups installed
Rest of the hardware installed
Neck installed
Strung up!!
I don't have any nice photos yet. The black is very difficult to photograph accurately. The finish doesn't look as good in the photos as it does in real life. The finish isn't perfect, but I think it looks great. The next challenge will be to get some glamour shots done! ?
Setup went smoothly. I'm about 95% there. Need to play around with pickups heights a bit still, but she plays and sounds beautiful. The neck is so comfortable. The soft v fills that bit of space that a Fender c-shape neck leaves in my hand. She's also very light. Almost 3kg's on the nose. Nicely balanced and very comfy on a strap.
It's been a helluva ride and it was so much fun doing it as a joint project with my dad. We really did try to split the work 50/50 (but I thinkg it's tipped slightly in his favour with all the trouble we had with that damned black finish). I wouldn't swap the memories and experience for all the money in the world!
Not there is only one thing left... to play the hell out of her!!
