Carbon Copy Mod?

Hi guys

After playing around with the Carbon Copy delay I got last week I realise that it's a very dark sounding pedal compared to my nova delay. Don't get me wrong, it's a great delay. I use the Carbon Copy for my base sound and the nova for all my presets and sometimes have to switch between both while in the middle of a song if required. This is where the problem comes in.

I think the Carbon Copy would be a far superior pedal if MXR added a tone pot to it. But being that as it may, is there any mod that can be done to the pedal to make it sound a smidgen brighter without compromising it's analog warmth? And if so is there anyone local that can do it?

AFAIK, the CC is SMD circuitry, so that's going to limit the number of guys that can work on it.

But also it sounds like your complaint is as much with the inherent character of the delay, which is modelled more after analog delay sounds, so I'm not sure if a simple mod will do what you need.

Howzit man,

The CC uses SMD boards making it very hard to mod, especially if something goes wrong.
I also see they haven't released the factory schematic so you'd be flying blind.

I rate probably not the best pedal to mod. I'm not too familiar with BDD delay circuits, but I doubt simple mods such as replacing a capacitor would have a significant effect.

I agree with Alan that the slightly darker sound is an inherent quality of the pedal and have realised that rather than trying to change it I should utilise it. It just means making more use of my tone knob on my guitar when needed.

Now that I think of it, wanting to mod a perfectly good pedal rather than takIng the tIme to understanding it's character and appreciating it was a bit premature and silly on my part.
