Just had an ogle on the Computicket website. Looks like the tickets are on sale and there is indeed a gig lined up for Cape Town as well.

Sweet, I missed seeing him in East London at the Orient Theatre many years ago, think this will make up for it ?

I checked that concert last time he was here about 8/9 years ago at carnival city. A very reluctant rock star, a little stoned but all together good concert.

could not get tickets for the 15th but am in an booked for the 16th ?

yip , last time out i reckon ole Sixto was well stoned on our poison.....

Sold out completely for the 16 th . Maybe they'll add a further show for Jhb.

I checked hims at Carnival about 10 years ago, I think that when he came out here last. He had a great back up band, in fact I was more impressed by the back up band than Rodriguez. He does come across as very uncomfortable on stage and in front of a large crowd... and definately stoned!

The back up band was a swing band type thing and they really revved up his music, I was very impressed.. I would love to get a recording of that "Sugar man with those Saxophones. I wish I could remember the back up band, does anybody remember seeing him about 8/10 years ago at Carnival?

I saw the Sunday show in Cape Town. I could wax on about his fit with band etc. But for me it didn't matter. I wasn't expecting spit & polish. For me, that's not his appeal. I started listening to his music about 30 years ago. I missed my chance last time he was here. I think he's only partly sighted now & just enjoying his moment in the sun.

There wasn't a dry eye ...in my seat.

I also saw his show on Sunday night, also heard him first 30 years ago and also live in Claremont.

It was really good!
It was a bucket-list item of seeing the oke live.
Was great to hear old "anthems" with the whole audience joining in.

P.S. The lead guitarist with his Vai-ish guitar and heavy rocker attititude wasn't a perfect fit for the genre ... but nothing's perfect

Ah Got it! It was the Live Fact South African Tour 2001 http://sugarman.org/rod_southafrica2001.html with the back up band of The Big Town Play Boys a very cool group, who have backed Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Robert Plant. I remember them being exceptionally good and I really loved the way they souped up the hits from Cold Fact. Id encourage everyone to track down the CD and give a listen.

THe other guitarist (with the Strat) was Willem Moller - presently of Big Sky and erstwhile of Die Gerefomeerde Blues Band (Voelvry tour etc). The guitar he was playing was the EC signature model. Willem also backed Rodrigues during the first tour (1998?), along with the rest of Big Sky.
