guitar mods

Capricorn

My cousin recently gave me his guitar as he
is giving up on playing so i got this ?

Surprisingly it actually has a really nice playing neck so I'm thinking
of putting some money into it and it can become my modding practise guitar.
Any suggestions as to what I should upgrade or change out? I have about R2000
that I'm willing to use on it.

Good start would be the obvious....strings,pick ups,electronics,hardware and maybe a hotrod respray... ?

most of the hardware on the guitar is rather good , personally been a cort owner myself ...... i would change the pickups for either Seymour duncans or EMG's , i know my cort loves EMG's

There's nothing surprising about the Cort G-Series being quite nice guitars - I've been punting them for ages and own a G-VT myself. Even the pickups are decent - not amazing, but much better than I usually expect on guitars in this price range.

As to mods... The G-250 already has a Graph Tech nut and Wilkinson trem, so you don't have to do anything there. Otherwise, in order of importance:

- Schaller strap locks - first thing I do to any of my guitars.
- Switchcraft output jack - the stock Cor-Tek tends to give problems after only a year or so, and always feels loose anyway.
- Pickups - to taste.
- CRL or Grigsby 5-way lever switch
- CTS pots
- Gotoh locking tuners

...and that's about all you can do.
