Desktop recording device help

Greetings all,

So i'm looking into recording off my laptop and i want to get an external sound card/Audio interface. I dont know too much about what's good and what to avoid but i've managed to come up with two options. Which is best bang for buck? What else would you recommend. not so much concerned about the software as much as the hardware itself.

First off is the Line 6 POD UX2:

I love the look of it and it has quite a few inputs. Saw one a Musikland PE for R2700

Lexicon Pro's Lambda:

My highschool use this for all their recording of the music students.

What else?

To Be honest, both of those are good choices, but I think the decider will be what you primarily want to record? If mainly electric guitars, then the Pod is probably the better choice?

If you want to use mics more, then the Lambda is perhaps the better option?

Sorry, thats about all I can say at the moment, as my youngest is rather sick, so must run...

Its mostly guitar and bass, maybe a mic here and there. sorry to hear that!

Boss BR800!!!

If you're recordings are going to be simple the Boss is a great choice. You can get the BR600 cheaply second hand as well. The 800 offers the option to go further that just you recording by yourself if you want to.

I'm not sure what equipment and toys you have now..or how much you want to spend...but..
I would look around for a used Digitech GNX4,has onboard 8 track and looper,and acts as a usb sound card when connected to a laptop
It can record directly to the software Pro Tracks Plus, that comes with it or drag and drop your onboard recordings into it
Ive tried it with Pro Tools,Cakewalk and Ableton softwares as well without a prob.
If I could go back ten years,I wouldve shelled out the cash there and then,despite the price tag bringing tears to my eyes.

The Line 6 is cool if you want to use modelling, but the preamps are pretty average. The Lexicon is budget too.

In that price range, your best bet is probably one of the Focusrite Scarlett interfaces.

+1 Focusrite Scarletts are great bang for buck.
