TJ's OPen Mic nights - October and November

These are the last two of 2012. In each case it's the last Thursday of the month - 25th of October and 29th of November. Usual venue: Press Club Bar, Marks Park, Judith Road, Emmarentia. TJ's provide the PA. Sets are 15 minutes. Admission R25 (playing or not). Plenty of parking. Food and drinks can be ordered from Marks Park staff. I will be hosting the November open mic night.

Not perhaps the guy with the nylon guitar who sullied the genteel precint that is the Johannesburg Press Club bar with the f.... word?

Hmm yeah, if it was him I'd have to be honest here that I did not enjoy his performance at all. I can forgive poor singing if it gets more people to have a crack at performing to an audience and open mic nights are great for offering such people the opportunity. I don't feel though that adding the phrase "f_ck this sh_t" to an otherwise poor song suddenly gives it some sort of credibility though. But what I can't stand is people who show up at open mic nights with a whole entourage who all then promptly leaves as soon as he's done.

I do agree but I found him very amusing ?

Ive been trying to find him facebook so I can 'like' his page. Not joy so far.

Wow - it looks like you guys had a gas. I'm very envious. Deefstes +1 for the video clip! Lovely playing and singing. It would be great (and really inspirational!) to have more of them for those of us who can't make it. Well done chaps! A big round of applause for the guys behind the scene too!

And old problem, not confined to open mic nights or to TJ's. People come to support their friends or family or the act that they like and don't give a rat's furry derrière about anything else. I've seen it repeatedly. At one of Andy McGibbon's nights one act attracted a crowd that sat and talked through every other set and then left straight after that act had played.

What bothers me more are people who pay money to go to a show and then talk through everything. What's that about?
