Currently playing a RGA32 MOL through a Laney VC30 in a band that is very Foo-Fighters, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, etc etc based. I do still need to pick up a pedal that is going to get me to the level of gain I need for the genre (any suggestions btw? Was thinking of organzing something like a DE Cool Cat overdrive or a Bad Monkey? A cheap overdrive basically) but I am really keen to make a change on the guitar side as well, over the look and the sound of my Ibanez.

I would think passive humbuckers would be a good start but that is about as far as I have gotten. All I have seen on Gumtree are strats lately which has made me think about importing a Hagstrom off Thomann maybe? Any recommendations for brands/models to look at that will suit the genre and style I am playing?

Budget I would say is R5k - R6k, would be great if I could find something for less obviously.
Obvious thing would be a Jaguar? Maybe one of the "blacktop" (is that right) Jags with hums?
Agree with Singe, maybe the new Jaguar Modern Player with P90s, or perhaps the Mustang Pawnshop Special that's loaded with 'buckers?
Now to find them 2nd/new with my price range :\
Some of the Reverends are pretty cool. Well made, relatively inexpensive and some very unique and good twists on the old themes. www.reverendguitars.com

+1. Guitar Tone (Gian & Marco Melfi) IINM are the local dealers.
Isn't the VC30 an EL84 based amp? Unless you have the luxury of trying out a boat load pedals, you could check out what other guys are using with their EL84 based amps. Might be a good place to start.

            Happy hunting

I'm playing EL84-loaded amps exclusively and I can say the Way Huge Green Rhino works very nicely indeed with all of them.

Got into contact and unfortunately Reverend guitar prices has increased quite a bit with the weakening of the rand unfortunately I.e. the Sensei pricing around R11000. This might also create a bit of a problem with importing a Hagstrom, will have to recalculate.
