Main take-home point should be: if you're buying a high-end guitar from anyone besides a reputable dealer, or perhaps a reputable forum member, you'd best do some serious homework, or take someone along who, for instance, knows the difference between a 1968 and a 1971 Les Paul.
Agreed, the fakes are getting better. Going purely on photos can be dangerous in Classifieds, you have to see it first hand and inspect the instrument.
