That actually sounds like a good weekend out. To be honest I'm not bothered about their collective Methusalah-ness (?!) but what tweaks me is that Charlie's drumming style changed sometime in the eighties to a more methodical, swingless style that I really don't like. About the same time Jagger stopped singing and started either shouting or parodying himself by pushing out excessive drawl live and on record.
I'm not bothered by the age either. Charlie is 71, the rest are in their 60s. As I've noted before, I've seen musicians that age playing with skills intact and with real passion and commitment.
I think a lot of good drummers got robotic in the 80s. I don't think it was just kowtowing to contemporary production values, it just seemed to get into a lot of drummers heads for a while.
Charlie would be the least of my concerns, really. Mick is almost self-parodic and Ron and Keef just don't seem to care. I think they're not a band any more, they're a corporation whose board members meet up occasionally when there's a business opportunity.
