Ok fellow string puckers this weeks challenge is from CDee ...
"I was thinking in the lines of EPIC movie music (not Epic movie, that rip-off movie they made recently).
You know, like with Gladiator, the song at the end in the fields. Gave you goose bumps and made the movie seem even better than what it really is (Now we are free - Enya). Another example would be "Streets of Philadelphia - Bruce Springsteen". Titanic, "My heart will go on - Celine Dion" (I hate using that example cause I hated the movie).
I hope my description is clear enough, if not ask me some questions."
The Deadline is Thursday midnight

OOH! I love this one!
Going to have to get really creative here (and hopefully enter this time)
OT: Another powerful track, once again from Enya, was Exile as used in 'Mandela and De Klerk'.

I think it is also used in "Cry my beloved country" (might be the same movie). And yes, you've hit the nail on the head.

Gee cdee, another difficult one for a recording noob like me.

Is there any time limits on these!!!

PS. Once I got going I just couldn't stop until I reached about 12 minutes :-[

Ummm - Just a thought, the original intention of these challenges where to jot down a quick musical thought something that is a minute or less and doesn't take more than an hour or so to create and record. However the competion has become rather fierce lately so everyone (myself including ) is spending waaay to much time on the recording side. In addition the topics are becoming more challenging. I can't figure a way to write an Epic theme that is less than 5 minutes long so I guess this week we going to have to settle for long pieces and hope our voters are patient enough to hear them out. ?
sepheritoh
True. Maybe I am taking it way too serious, but epic movies is my weak point here. As a compromise, I'll post a 1 minute cut and the full lenth version, so the listeners can decide which one they want to listen to.
Renesongs
I don't think I could fit mine into 1 minute without it sounding completely lame.

Just a note for those who have a hard time thinking of how to appoach this, I can offer a few tips. I have been listening to a lot of Hans Zimmer, Trevor Rabin, Pink Floyd and Yngwie Malmsteen (his concerto) for inspiration on this one. Another great example for the brave is the Rush soundtrack by Eric Clapton or the Pro's & cons of hitchiking (Waters & Clapton). There seems to be no shortage of epic sounding guitar works all around.

So I go home last night and get all amped up (excuse the pun) to do a piece for our weekly challenge...
Only to find that I've left my pedals, cables and mixer in the band room along with my amp... balls! >☹
I'm not impressed, I was so looking forward to this. But I'll still lay something down so that you guys can play with it.
LMinnie
Youd do better to keep tabs on where all you gear is chum...might just lose something!!! ?

I still have to decide whether I'll join in on this one, but as a few tips some things sprung to mind. There's that good old montage music from Rocky "Eye of the tiger". In fact, about every eighties movie had some sort of montage music. Don't know if I'm on the right track, are you looking for tear inducing music only?

Another good tip is Johnny Clegg's music from "Jock of the Bushfeld"
Rudolf
are you looking for tear inducing music only?
I sure hope this is not the case, otherwise I'm doing my own version of Barney the dinosaurs's intro song tonight. /joke I could very well argue it's epic.
Squonk
Tears or not, but there must be goosebumps.
I was thinking of doing something similar to the "theme from Romeo and Juliet" but I just cant freaking get the nylon guitar to sound good, will try with electric guitar tonight, I wish I had one of those George Benson Ibanez guitars.

"Eye of the Tiger" is a great example of an epic track. Like it or not that movie was seen by millions and they all remember the soundtrack. The soundtrack helped the movie be great. An epic track, IMO, is a track that helps the movie be successful. Some movies would not have been so great if not for a great soundtrack.
Get cracking guys time is almost up!!! /* Rene, crap your whip */ ?
