Okay I have to say that I did replace the P100s on my 135 with P90s - but the neck is a Gibson P90 so that's still in the same ballpark. I reckon their P90s and buckers are on par with SD, DiMarzio, etc but that hand wounds are still going to beat them for liveliness.
Anyway, no reason not to first buy a Gibbo and then decide whether you want to pupgrade later. Way later. Main argument is second hand Gibson does not loose value vs new Epi that does.
Gibson will always beat Epiphone in terms of valuation etc.
with the exception probably being the Japanese Elitist range.
Unfortunately I don't have much wiggle room in terms of budget, otherwise a Gibby would've definitely been in my hands by now.

+1. The Gibson P90s are among the better ones out there, particularly if you like the raw, in-your-face P90 tone. For more of a polite, lively pickup, Lollar or Fralin. Lollar also offers a lower output '50s model which is comparatively sweet.
Just taking the example of the Charlie Christian pickup, you can hear those pickups, Lollar, are pure class. Lot of natural harmonics coming through.
