thanks, appreciated! ?
i still do the normal circuit but for now im enjoying a more mature and civilised crowd.
oh yes, and i come in with my guitar only, no PA no nothing.
for a musician thats spent 20 years and 4000 gigs mostly in the drunken scene,
even weddings and functions have many of those, this in my new heaven.
?
im loving it.

Hooboy. Do I have a relevant post.
Last night I had a seriously terrible show, as facebook friends will already know. But the point is it was made worse because of the guitar.
After the show, the organiser, who I like very much, says: "There's a guitarist from a name-brand international band who wants to jam. Can he use your guitar."
Here's the difference with these instruments. I said, "I feel bad, but I simply cannot let him use this guitar." It's valuable. It's fragile as hell. Sure he'll pay if he breaks the neck in half. But no way will he do anything about dinging it. He'll be on a plane. With my less expensive guitars, no problem at all. Use it. Now I have to be a dick and not let them use the instrument. I literally asked her to ask the other band where the player had a strat because they're more rugged. And I felt bad about that too.
(of course why the guy was too awesome to use one of the Epis from the other band I don't know either).
This is after, two weeks ago, I let a well known guitar player borrow my Pacifica, and I wasn't even mad when he was so stoned that he allowed it to fall over from where he'd put it down. The Pacifica can take that kind of punishment and come up smiling. This, folks, is the difference... especially with Gibson guitars.

i dont mind letting ppl get up and jam if i know them, or if i think theyre sober and can handle it.
but a while back mr whackhead walks into my gig smashed out his brains on his bachelors party and his buddy kept trying to make me get him up on the stage, the dude couldnt even stand straight.
actually his friend turned into a prick at some stage cos i kept saying sorry but no.
accidents do happen but why invite an ''almost for sure gonna fall on your shit and break it'' dude onto your stage?
famous or not who cares?
man, if vai walks into my gig drunk and falling id tell him f off.

>☹ >☹Played at a small club the other nite. Very little space. Someone bumped the 315 off the Bass bin and it Just brushed my Gibson Le Paul G-tuner knob. Was so lucky, not a scratch, just slightly out of tune. Damm nearly broke my kneecap.

I used to play my 1958 Les Paul onstage every night in the 80's, even put the headstock through a speaker cone one evening ( on purpose)

I played my 59RI LP at the handful of gigs we have done. Wouldn't let some stranger come up and use it either, it's different if you know someone though. It's insured, so if something happened I would be OK, but the way the rand is going I don't even think I'd be able to afford a replacement even with the insurance money.

I had to snatch my strat from the jaws of death at the fishing comp last night when a bunch of drunken bums decided that they were on X Factor Tete style. I locked it in the bait room - I'd rather it stank of fish! If it's going to get relicced, I'll be doing the reliccing!

You're a super-hero Chabenda. Keep us informed of your Strat's adventures.

I don't mind when people want to play my old 1962 Strat,
they are not easy to damage. Hendrix struggled smashing his
on stage and had to set fire to it to kill it for real.
I won't, however, ever allow my audience to play my harmonica's.
They can wear my wigs, pose with my crazy glasses and even sneak out
with the blow up guitars ... but no one, except me, plays them harps!!!

Still....it's kinda sad....
It's like owning a Ferrari and driving to work each day in a 10-year-old Corolla...
And for those guys who want to play your guitar at gigs....
Just say: Sure...and can I take your girlfriend for a spin around the block?...
