I found a fab CAMRA pub in London, the Bree Louise, c/o Euston and Coburg streets. About 15 real ales at any given time, but they constantly change the line up so you don't know what to expect. I went there the day after we got to the UK and had a pint of "Studland Bay Bitter" from the Isle of Purbeck brewery. Scrum-diddly-umptious. Went back 9 days later, night before we flew out to Spain, and there was a whole different set of beers. Also got on the outside of a couple of pints of two well-established real ales - Harvey's and Hook Norton. Very nice.

Spain is pissy lager territory unless
a) you want an ice cold Guiness at an "Irish" pub
b) you want an ice cold Smith's at an "English" pub (several of them in Benidorm)
c) you want a "Clara" which is a sort of shandy made with some lemony flavoured soft drink (so popular many bars have it pre-mixed on tap)
d) you do the sensible thing and drink sherry (which is relatively cheap, very good and in great variety)

But none of this is why I'm posting here today. No.

On Friday 19th of this very month, at the Chalkboard Cafe in Maboneng, there will be round 3 of the "Backyard Brew" Microbrewery Competiton. R20 buys you a cup. Tastings of all entered brews are free, but I presume "tasting" is about an egg cup full (fair enough). Popular vote at the end of the night determines the winner.

Five beers entered so far, plus the Chalkboard usually has a good range of beers from indy brewers.
