I'm not saying scarf joints are cheap. I'm saying not having them is more expensive (since you need a big piece of wood) and that's how '50s Gibsons were made, and how Gibsons and accurate copies are still made.
My proof is seeing many, many examples, owning 3, and seeing this discussed over and over. So I can't point you to the official place where they explain this. But you can trust me, and other Gibson guitar fans will back me up on this.
Scarf joints may be a better design, I'm not arguing with you there. But on LPs they are not used, except on cheaper ones like Epis where they do it for the purpose of saving costs.
