Tacoma Guitars - What happened?

So,

Since I've been living in Cape Town, I've seen a number of Tacoma Acoustics and acoustic basses around certain shops. But everytime I go to their website it has NO links whatsoever and just says 'we're seasoning the wood'. Not even a contact email address.

There's a rumour going around that they have indeed fallen victim to the great gnashing of teeth of the Fender corp? Is this true? Are they infact no longer being produced?

I've always wanted a Tacoma Thunderchief 5 string acoustic bass, as quite simply I've found them to be the best, but I can't get any info on them.

Its a real sad and sorry affair if Tacoma have indeed gone bust and been in'corporated'!

Anyone know anything?

It would seem that way. You can see the Fender F at the top of there web page where you close the tab... ???

yaaa I wanted a thunderchief so bad at one stage but didn't, as far as I can remember the reason was they were plagued by lifting bridges, so I forgotaboutit

From what I understand Tacoma as a brand has been discontinued owing to the fact that they never really "took off", the factory that used to build them now builds USA Guild acoustics.

I must have missed that bit on Wikipedia? I had read stuff on their, but nothing about them being closed down all together! Oh well! There goes that dream!

Were they one of the brands that came with Kaman Chad? If so, not surprising, given the overlap with other brands that are more popular. I would imagine there is more than a little reshuffling needed.

Nope, Fender bought over Tacoma a good few years before the Kaman buyover ?

Thankfully not ? Ovation are doing really well the world over at the moment, hence the branching out they've been doing with regards to their designs ? I can't really say much more than that but if you check their website you'll get what I mean ?
