Read somewhere that Lowden, or rather the company that's making them now, have gone bust. Good time to get one of the older ones now I reckon, because their value is sure to go up substantially pretty soon.
The ownership of the brand has changed a few times. About 12 years ago Geriorge Lowden himself regained full control of the brand and of manufacturing. THOSE are the ones to get. Manufacture is overseen by Lowden himself, and QC is rigorous.
Buying old Lowdens is a dodgy game unless you know what guitars were made in what factory when, but since Lowden himself started up the shop at Downpatrick the guitars have been very, very good and 2nd hand examples are not expensive. I suspect that because of the changes of ownership over the years the investment potential for Lowdens has been diminished.
New Lowdens are currently available and Lowden are advertising a position at their factory.
