I always thought they weren't allowed to trap where you are going down a hill?

Having swapped my Opel for a pair of walking shoes a few months back (work moved nice and close to home ? ), I have a fresh appreciation of the speed limit from a pedestrian's point of view. I'm surprised more pedestrians are not killed in suburban areas, I'm passed by a number of guys on my usual route every day swooping (downhill ? ) at 100kmh+ in a 60 zone mere metres from mothers taking babies for walks and joggers etc.

I used to be one of those drivers, no more. I'm all for increasing automated trapping / speed control with speed bumps or whatever in areas where people are walking.

You should all move to Kimberley. ? A while back there was some sort of "irregularity" with the tender awarded to the company who operates the cameras on behalf of the traffic department. Apparently they're still trying to sort that out, which means that for nearly a year now none of the local cameras have been working. Mind you, they're pretty keen on roadblocks around here, but speed.... not so much.
Also no hills hey. We live in a suburb called Heuwelsig, which I assume got it's name from the fact that one of the roads leading into our street has a gentle incline of about 3m from the bottom to the top of it. :-[

They probably named it Hemelsig and the sign writer spelled it wrong... then they figured both are equally inaccurate so might as well leave it.

And back on topic: Boyes Drive (CT) has a new static camera, I approve of enforcing the limit but disapprove of the two new giant ugly yellow 3m poles and housings that are uglying up the road.

My experience is totally opposite. I find crossing the road these days to be quite a daunting task as anything with wheels is deemed, by the driver, to have precedence over anything on foot.

16 years ago, I'd sit at a red traffic light, and wait for upwards of 2 minutes at 02:00 in the morning. Now I treat it as a four-way-stop. So I guess I'm guilty too, but that's my whole point, we should be too sh*t scared to skip a light....even at that time of the morning...

Stopping and then proceeding is OK; Not legal, but you're being prudent and careful and keeping safety in mind.

I reckon they should up the speed limit on some National roads to 140km/h. The roads are relatively straight and you can see for miles if there is a problem up ahead.

Every time I see someone driving while on a cellphone I think he may as well have a loaded gun and be waving it around. it's insane. I'd love to see more fines for moving violations and unroadworthiness.

There's talk that they want to reduce the speed limit by 10km/h...! iow to 110 on National Rds.....I'm selling my Ferrari !

Sorry, what country is that, because here in South Africa, potholes make it dangerous to drive 100km/h on the national roads, and judging by the amount of wheels damaged thusly (is that a word?) you can't see them untill you're on top of them. MAYBE, I'd agree on saying that's fine on highways, IF idiots who drive 40 on the highway are properly policed. What do you think the likelyhood of that is?
