Plexi 18Watter Build

In the light of my recent inquiries regarding EL-84's etc.....and listening to a JMP 18 watter at Toms this morning, the time has come for a new build......

Basically I'm looking at the following:

Pre-stage being the same as my current TC-8W, namely a Fender Princeton Front end, but with a three-way tone stack....
No extra gain stage as per my TC-8W...Clean channel only....keeping it simple
18W EL-84 plexi O/P....
New dual 12" Cab with Greenbacks.....

Good idea. Not a new idea, but still a good idea ?

OK.....some research done..

Ironware is likely to be Classictone for the PT/OT/Choke.....

Chassis...own design and made locally....as per the TC-8W built previously....

Turret board....needs further research and to find a possible local supplier for both the board and turrets.....anybody know of a local supplier here.... ?

I still have to use it, but I bought black perspex at Plastic World for my next build.
Turrets you get at RS Components under 'prototyping'.

Actually, they now also have valves and sockets... Chinese ones, and some of 'em real cheap as well. For octal sockets, I still recommend buying the relay sockets: much better than the dedicated tube ones (part nr 424-7477). For noval you're stuck to the ceramics locally.

In case you don't want to use perspex, you can actually get electrical fibreboard (pretty much what they send you if you buy a turret board overseas) at Maizey plastics, probably others too. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks makepeace....I already buy from Pia...she provides a great service and pricing is good....

I already have all the tubes...some nice old stock too...

RS Components turrets hae gone throug the roof lately - they doubled in price. I think its cheaper to get them online from one of the US stores. I have just got in a big stock. I also used Classictone in my JTM45 - I did a lot of reading & they are definitely the best v4m. I am very happy with the result.
