12-string Samick

Hi guys, just wanne get some opinions...

I've been gassing after a 12-string for some time now. I can get a Samick 12-string acoustic for R799, no electronics. It's currently strung with only 6 strings and the action is already a bit high but not unplayable, and there is plenty space to take some meat off the saddle. No sign of saddle bulge. These are made in Korea and I know the general consensus is that Korean made is good.

I figured I could get him down to R700, get Andries to do me a nice set-up with some new Elixirs, bone hardware and a Rare earth Humbucker (to start with) I could have a pretty descent guitar for a reasonable price.

Opinions please... :-\

I've tried setting up a Samick 6-string for some oke a while back, and wound up giving up in the end. I dunno about your one, but that Samick was horribly made...

Forget it. I've seen probably about a dozen Samick 12's, and they all had a top that was bellying up, most used as six strings because of it. Chances are good if you fit the guitar in question with 12 strings again the action will get even worse.

I thought the action will more than likely get worse. Buying it to use as a 6 is not an option....thanks Allan/Gearhead....just one question...tophat? Never heard that one... ???

The only musical tophats I know of (aside from Slash's) are the receptacle for a speaker stand at the bottom of a speaker cabinet.

Not sure where I got that particular turn of phrase from originally, but I've always used it. In extreme cases it's very apt.
