Danele hi guys, tried searching, but to no avail.. i have a pickguard (on my mustang) that i want replicated, preferably laser cut, with edging and screw holes counter sunk etc.. do any of you know where i can get this done? laser cutting place etc? somewhere thatll have MOP or tortoise shell material..? i know i can order one from the pickguardian n so on, but was wondering if there's some place locally that will do it. thanks!
Gearhead I doubt if you will get what you're after with laser cutting in plastic but if you want steel or aluminium it's great. There are about half a dozen places in Johannesburg, best take the one closest to you. I have had good experience with Eco Laser but any of the others will be comparable. You are going to battle to find someone who will bevel the laser cut outside the Laser Centre at the CSIR. If you are going for plastic, then maybe consider finding a handy oke with a drill press and a router to do the job for you. Copying the original is a matter of a follower bit and the beveling is done with the same method but using a bevel bit. If you want to get a slightly different shape then look for water jet cutting. Again no beveling to my knowledge but the cuts will look great. I would not know where to get mother-of-toilet-seat locally. Mother of pearl is a whole different ballgame...
aja http://www.laser-cutting-online.com/ They do laser and water cutting... Bought metal there before, but haven't had anything cut yet. Nice people... And you can buy plastic from Maizey: http://www.maizey.co.za/
