Junkmail scammers - LOLZ Part 3/4 I think.

Man I thought that I was done with this lot, but it seems that they're still out there.

I have 2 other threads based on my fun with this lot, but it seems that they're at it again.

Advertised my mother in laws laptop this morning for 2k. I guessed that it was a decent price and thought, maybe 1 or two scammers asking the normal lines.

1) how much for the item?
2) Can you ship the item to Lagos Nigeria.........??

But no, I got something fresh today.

Firstly email was from a very english sounding name (Emma Young) and asked all the right questions and in English as well. She then asks for my banking details as she wants to make 100% sure that she gets it and give a deposit, cause it's a great deal. Already at this stage I'm thinking scam, scam, scam......lol. FFF, the eternal pessimist when it comes to junktree.

Then she asks if she can call me, I say sure, she calls and straight away................it's a bloke.........he's Miss Young's boyfriend and he's going to help "Emma" because she doesn't know the correct terms etc, no worries.

Straight away, this bloke says that he'll come in person to pay and collect the balance of the laptop. I say fine. Funds have to clear first before I accept any balance payment, so if it hasn't cleared, then he's going to have to wait. He says cool. I give him my work address and tell him that he can collect it here. He asked if it is my home address as he would want to test it. I say no, it's my work, a high security embassy and we can test it in the reception area after he has been through security.

This is when it got funny. He said that he's not happy with coming to my work and asks if we can rather meet in a parking lot at the local mall. I say nope, my way or the highway. He then gets snotty saying that he's already made the payment into my account and that he'll put in extra if we can meet elsewhere.

He said he'll come through tomorrow, but my money is on him not coming through and also the money deposit being fake.

R10 says that this guy and his mates were hoping to stash me in a dustbin somewhere................hmmmmm

i was reading on the gumtree forum and i read a post about guys selling their cars then being asked to meet somewhere and as soon as they arrive at said location they get highjacked, about 4 people (i stand corrected) fell victim to this...

Yes...and one car-seller got murdered here in Cape Town about a week ago.

These dreck is ruthless....you don't meet up with them !

yebo, my work is actually a million times more secure than a cop shop anyway. Hell, my kids garden dollhouse is more secure than a cop shop.

One thing I have to admit, it seems that the guys are putting a lot more work into a scam nowadays and have no problem getting violent.

I got confirmation of R1500 being paid into my account and awaiting clearance. Checque deposit made........so I call BS on that one. As soon as the payment was made, I got an sms last night, saying that he wants to come and pick it up and pay the cash difference at my house, I said sorry, laptop is at my work, I'm only having people view and collect from my work.

Then the fun starts.

sms #1. I have made the deposit into your account, can i come and collect the laptop and pay the difference.
reply. No, collection only at my work

sms #2. I would like to have this laptop for work tomorrow so I would like to collect tonight.
reply. No, collection only at my work.

sms #3. I have stuck to my end of the transaction, please make yourself available for collection.
reply. Will do.....but only once your cheque has cleared and only at my work.

sms #4. I really need this laptop for work tomorrow, can I pay more to take it now
reply. No

He then calls and I ignore the call from him. I've already decided ages ago that I'm done with this fool.

sms #5. I tried to call you, I have paid a deposit the laptop is mine.
reply. The laptop is yours when I receive payment in full, carry on being so pushy and I'll tell you to get stuffed.

He tries to call again and once again, I ignore it.

sms #6. I tried to call you again is your phone broken
no reply..........

sms #7. (got this one this morning as I turned my phone off) I want a refund on my money, can you please do that as I want to buy another laptop elsewhere.
reply. When/ if your funds eventually clear I'll do so, minus any fees that may occur from you wasting my banks time.

sms #8. I need the money by 9 as I want to buy another laptop.
reply. read previous email.

sms #9. Can I come and collect my money from you at your work.
no reply.............

and that takes it to 7.20am..............lol.. what a foolz.

I wonder if he will be just as readily in contact when, eventually, it turns out that the cheque didn't clear? Oh no wait, I don't. :?

Why don't you send him one last sms saying "Listen here you lowlife piece of scamming crap. I'm seeing right through you. I know as well as you do that your cheque will never clear so you can stop sms'ing or calling me, I'm done with you. Until your cheque clears, you have no claim to a refund or any goods so I'm not answering another call or sms from you until I see the money in my account."

I'm thinking the only way to get to these scammers would be to get a few guys together and "educate" them in a medieval manner. Then again there are so many illegal firearms out there, it just becomes too much of a risk.

Pretty soon the only safe way to do a transaction will be to organise a meeting with cash in hand: "OK, so this Saturday 16:30, you meet me outside Loftus. Wear a WP jersey so I can spot you easily."

I was considering selling my car on gumtree next year, to get a bit more than the dealers would give me, but knowing the characters it will attract, it just becomes too much of a risk.

Not much can be done regarding the situation as technically they didn't commit a crime. But this has to be the most brazen attempt to free me from my goods that I have yet seen and I have sold a LOT of stuff to a LOT of people over the years.

I can just imagine this "robert" character pitching up at someone's house wishing to view a laptop with 4 of his heavies.

Where are the days when I was offered a guys sister as collateral for an ibanez gio and a fender frontman 15w?

Be careful out there when selling on the web................

When I sold my guitar I got so fed-up with the one guy who made a "deposit" into my account and demanded he come collect my guitar that I eventually organized to meet him at Roodeplaat dam where I keep my "valuable guitars". I don't know if he went to the fake address I gave him, but I really hope he did.

I learned the hard way (many moons ago) to be very very careful when trading... Had a lovely 9mm in my back and lost a lot of $$$ and my pilot's watch in the process... >☹ Could have been much worse, obviously.

Yeah I've noticed how these scammers are getting slicker. You've got to to be so careful.
