Mrs X-rated and I are going on holiday soon. We fly out Wednesday 12th. We're back early October. We'll be visiting various locations in the UK and then spending a week in Spain, time split between Alicante and Madrid (with, I'm hoping, a day trip to Toledo).
Now... the important things.
Beer: I've been to Spain before, but to Barcelona. The bars there dish out various examples of cold, pissy lager. I'm not expecting anything better in Alicante or Madrid. The UK.... well there's a plethora of beery delights to be had there. We'll be in Brighton, so a pint or two of the excellent Harvey's should be obtainable.
Cricket: Season will be all but finished in the UK. In Spain creeket she is not beeeg. The former is a small inconvenience. For me one of the small joys of an English summer is an hour of solitude in a pub with a pint of something good and Mike Atherton's cricket column in the Times (that column is a thing of beauty and wonder). Oh well.... I'll have to try the crossword out instead.
Music: We have tickets to see Martin Simpson in the teeming metropolis of Kemsing, Kent; for Spiers and Boden in Banbury; and for a night of flamenco at a club in Madrid that looks quite interesting and has a reputation for show casing hot young talents. The latter gig is completely unplugged, and on booking you are told that you are expected to keep quiet during the performance. Bravo! Small club - about a 100 seats. Sounds like my idea of a good time, as does the Kemsing show which is also in a small venue.
Holiday snaps may pop up at intervals on on
http://picasaweb.google.com/megapode/ either in a folder named "Drop Box" or a folder named something like "Holiday 2012". Then again, snaps may not pop up. It depends on where I am, how much time I have and if I can get a wi-fi connection.
