Bob-Dubery This is an interesting idea - assuming you're interested in lyrics and actually listen to the words - on figuring out how good a particular lyric actually is. The reader is encouraged to tweak the weightings to suit their own preferences. http://www.warr.org/lyrics.html
Squonk Had a look at some of their Album Reviews They seem to try a Jeremy Clarkson approach to reviewing albums, some merited but some a bit too sarcastic but good fun I suppose ?
Bob-Dubery I think it's more than their opinion - or trying to be, and they make a fair first of saying why they thing something sucks or is epic. See their flamewriter's FAQ to get some Clarksonism but also some insights into how they operate.
Bob-Dubery I like stuff like this actually. It's always good to get another take on things, and agreement can get boring. I also like strong opinions with some actual underpinnings to them, even if I don't agree at the end of it all. I've got a book at home where the author makes a pretty bold claim that Shakespeare is the greatest ever human creator, that Hamlet is his finest work and thus Hamlet is the finest human made thing yet. I don't necessarily buy that argument (though I think Shakespeare is pretty damn good), but it's fun and enlightening to read his reasoning and his defence. I find that kind of stuff leads to me new ways of thinking, gives me another angle from which to look at things. And it's good to read guys who are not just fans. They give 5 stars to the Richard Thompson album that a lot of his long-time fans can barely stand (you'd think it was Lulu or something the way some of them gaan aan). Good! Let's all double check our perceptions. Note the point in the lyrics analysis article - that part of the game is to check yourself, that you don't let John Lennon get away with stuff that you hate Tori Amos for just because hey, he's LENNON, man.
Squonk Going through the Lennon reviews - good reading, a lot I agree with and an interesting comment from Wilson about 'Imagine' "Outside of the title cut, I've never gotten into this album, but I won't diss it because I don't have it and can't substantiate my criticisms" Interesting that they(well, at least Allroy!) give Mirror Blue 5 stars, he does talk about the album with passion, and I am picking up he is a solid fan of RT.
