so many of you guys 'n gals are either really experienced, or really willing to take the risk in learning how. me, i can't afford it so much. i'm a complete five-thumbs-per-hand type person. but i figure the basics must lie in doing a set up - really getting the action just so. my tokais are great guitars, but i want to lower the action a bit, and thought i might give it a bash myself before heading to toms and letting Grant rescue the poor guitars once i've completely messed it up.
i looked through Alan's links, didn't really find anything specific, thought i'd find out from you guys what i should know before heading down this rocky road - or if it's about fourteen times as rocky as i think it is, and i should rather leave it to a pro.
the things i'm thinking i should take into account are like such (bearing in mind i don't yet know what to do, i'm just thinking these are the things to address):
adjusting the neck profile (truss rod)
adjusting the bridge and saddle(s)
pickup height
and about a few hundred other things, i suppose...
i have ralph denyer's guitar handbook, wondering if there's not a chapter in there on this?
anyhoo, i really want to get more handy with my guitars, rather than just being able to change strings, string notes together, and search for missing picks. (like those clear dunlops. whose nutso idea was that?) so advice and pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.
cheers
