Yes, it looks like it. A bit embarrassing really, for someone who (1) can't play keyboard and who (2) couldn't even install the damn thing and get a sound out of it, to have bought an instrument that's so sophisticated. But it was such a bargain, I should have bought two... ?

I don't know anything about MIDI either, just picked up a second hand PC-300 over the weekend and started fiddling, got me into looking at controllers that can do things that mine can't ?

Mind if I ask what you paid for it? Just so I can sob and wish

I paid just over R5K for both the FA-66 and the keyboard, if I remember correctly. My next major purchase will be a set of KRK V8 Rockit monitors. I'm still torn between a nice rack effects unit (Boss GT Pro...drool.. ?..) and Guitar Rig 3.

After the "gesukkel" last night I'm more inclined towards hardware now but that will probably change again soon...

IMO , as good as guitar rig is , i just don't find it practical . specially if you want to gig with it . i have been in IT for to many years , and to this day i still don't trust the bastard things . to many things can go wrong to quickly and always at the wrong time . so IMHO , hardware based would be the way to go .......

Alan you were right as usual...I'm trying to figure out all this I/O stuff. Got a synth to work and my guitar records and plays back. Now I realise how crap I sound... :-[...somehow the mistakes are not that obvious to me when I'm playing. Steep learning curve yet again...!

Progress! I now have stereo sound, and I'm continuing to figure things out. Downloaded the demo version of Guitar Rig 3 last night and played around with it. Absolutely awesome! Then I downloaded the demo version of Absynth and played around with that. Really cool. I will have to get both, there's no question about it.

After a while I noticed that the house was really quiet, went to the kitchen for a snack and realised it's 2 AM... :-[ So I guess my room is reasonably soundproof because the rest of the family was friendly to me this morning, though the suggestion has been made that I install an intercom... ?

A nix on the intercom though - fit a light switch outside and a bulb inside the room. Or be prepared to have a lot of takes with a long "beeeeep!" special effect.

Yep, no doubt about that, especially once our three year old figures out what that new box with the inviting red button actually is. Lots of takes with "beeeep...hello pappa"... ???

The light bulb is a good idea, I'll definitely do that.

Just had a thought...I'm using two outputs to my monitors/speakers...there are two more outputs. Can I take another directly to my guitar amp's input? Or is the output from the soundcard not the same as the output from pickups?

Not that I really need the additional volume... ?...but it might come in handy on New Years Eve!

You can use the outputs for another amp, but a guitar amp wouldn't be the first choice - they colour the sound too much. The levels are quite different, but many amps have low gain inputs you can use for a more powerful signal.
