They were huge, great party band. Watched a Thin Lizzy dvd where they supported Slade and they didn't go down to well, Slade were so huge nobody in the crowd gave a shit about Lizzy, basically boo'd them off, Lynott was devastated.

Quiet Riot, Randy Rhoads' old outfit covered loads of Slade songs back in the day.

Slade were a huge band, They are still together but without vocalist Noddy Holder and Bassist Jim Lea who were the creative force in the band.

Not many took them seriously because of their Glam Rock image and deliberate spelling errors in their song titles, but you will find they inspired a multitude of Rock Bands in the 80's.

Noddy Holder had a voice that is still IMO one of the best in Rock. Listen to "Slade Alive" a 1972 release that predated their little "Glam Rock" phase and see how much they could rock.

I remember that album because it revealed that Holder had more going for him than the hoarse yob shout that was a feature of the singles. He did a great, tender reading of John Sebastian's "Darling, Be Home Soon". In fact the whole band did a good job with a song you'd think was not their thing (they did turn it all up into more familiar territory on the last chorus).

Interesting you should mention that song Bob, probably my favourite on the album, there is a part in the song where Noddy can't sing because of a huge burp that was building. He eventually burped and had to incorporate into the song from that moment on.
