Saw Andre Rieu last night

Reinhard

I am not really into classical music, but my folks got me a ticket so I went along. The show was really good. If they can get the sound perfect for an orchestra, there is no excuse for a band to get bad sound at Grand West. They had a Russian trio on at one stage with a guy playing a Balaika (huge triangular shaped bass), I don't think I have ever seen one.
The whole show was in a "relaxed mood" and what they did really well was the selection of classical pieces. I recognised at least 90% of the music.
Highlight of the evening for me was Bolero. Father and son doing the drum line (which is supposed to be really hard keeping the tempo constant). Show started 8pm and finished around 10:45. A lot of fun and definitely worth going ?

My mother subjects us to that stuff on family holidays, and my only savior is beer. At least I'm able to identify a Straus walts.

Is the Straus walts a lager or pilsener? Bitter or dark?

Well andre is an amazing violinist and his show is an extravaganza,

and if you think classical music is dead , according to billboard he had already sold over 30 million cds and dvds ,if i recall, thats huge

on a personal note when he did his show at sun city last year, andre and the entire orchestra and crew had a dinner at the palace hotel at sun city and i had to play solo jazz guitar while they dined , got to meet him fleetingly but chatted quite a bit with his musicians , an amazing bunch of talented musos , and they seemed a happy bunch too, enjoying the tour

so classical music is alive and well and selling

+1 I've seen his shows on TV. Wont go and watch him live, I'm interested in seeing him, and not with the Soweto Gospel choir. My previous boss saw him the last time he was here and it wasn't as good. But yes, his shows are fantastic, but I'll pass it around here.

Some people go to watch Andre Rieu.
But we know the person that Andre Rieu goes to watch ...
?

its 'virtually' like being there. We're virtually acquainted. Gwa ha ha.

Had him on tv this morning. He owns 2 Stradivari, the second one ever made and one of the last ones made. No wonder he never puts it down ?

They asked him how he managed to get 2. He said once people know you have money, they come to you with the instruments. He is also the best selling male touring artist in the world, so he can't be doing too bad.
