I've wanted a Bigsby equipped guitar since I was but a small pup. And I love telecasters. So, obviously Telecasters with Bigsbys make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. 8)
So when I got the opportunity to buy one at a good price last month, I bit the bullet.
The package arrived quickly, well packaged and in perfect shape. Want to really recommend Jason from Revolution Audio in P.E. Great guy.
Inside is the B5 vibrato unit, a tele bridge plate, and a Mustang bridge.
My tele has a cheapish Wilkinson intonated 3 saddle bridge on, which sounds FANTASTIC, way better than it should, but breaks strings at an alarming rate.
Drilling the first holes.
Locating the bridge and vibrato.
And.. Voila!
Not the sexiest pic but you get the idea.
Well, how does it sound? First off, the signature attack from the 3 saddle brass bridge is compromised. That's to be expected. What I wasn't expecting was how nice and resonant this bridge would be. It also definitely makes the strings feel "slinkier" - it has a pretty tame break angle behind the bridge. The vibrato is subtle but feels quite solid, not as cheap as the copies I've experienced till now. It adds a bit of weight.. but a LOT of sex appeal ?
