This was my setup. I've sold the GT-8 and got a Ibanez TS-808 which I run through a NS-2. My sound is all amp (with a little boost from the Tube Screamer). I also replaced my p/u's with Seymour Duncans.

yeah, i've heard that those DM LiveWires are great in the RGA.

I'm putting Dimarzios in mine, Air Classic neck and Air Zone bridge. gotta wait until January for them to get here though :'(

Nice Guy! I'm a big fan of the Air Zone - I've got one at the bridge up with a Lollar Imperial at the neck. DiMarzio's description is pretty much dead on (vocal like "wah" sound, splits and parallels well, etc.). Low output enough to be dynamic and responsive, but still enough oomph for distorted tones. It works best in bright guitars and can get a bit mushy in warmer ones.

Cool, the RGA is quite bright.

Igor, what sort of sound are you getting out of your Thermion? Marshall type/Fender type/Mesa type/other type?

Igor can give his opinion but from what I heard out of his amp/settings he gets a smoother Dual Rec sound just a little...I dunno...less Mesa like? lol
It's quite versatile and underrated just a tad bit unreliable.

The dampening switch on this amp makes alot of difference:

With the dampening off ("red od channel" - which is the higher gain mode) the sound can get fuzzy and the high EQ control becomes very sensitive and harsh. Overall it seems like the high eq setting determines alot how much the presence eq control does. The advantage of the dampening off setting is that you get alot more gain and low end. Isane amounts of rediculous sub bass actually. You can pretty much go from smooth recto to fuzzy metal zone.

With the dampening on ("green od channel") you get less gain, but when really pushing the gain you get more crunch than fizz. It's also alot brighter, but without a decent boost (I use a TS808 or ZW-44) it doesn't get tight enough.

It seems like when they made the amp they wanted it to sound pleasing to your ear, but I struggle to translate that tone onto a recording.
I do record with my amp, but I prefer it as a live amp. It really comes to life when I Krank it up at a gig.

Oh and the cab - very cool! You can never go wrong with V30's
