MIDI interface help

Been trying to update the firmware of my Line 6 M13 - I have one of those MIDI to USB connectors but it doesnt seem to be up to the job. I connect everything, use Midi Ox to send the SysEx file, which it does, but nothing happens after it completes sending...

Does anyone have an audio interface which they would be willing to let me use? I cant justify spending a grand or more on something that I will in all likelihood only use once.

What OS are you using? I have a Roland/Edirol UM-4 just lurking because there are no Win 7/Vista drivers for it, only XP/2000.

I'm on Windows 7 - had a look at the manual and its from 2008, IIRC, Windows 7 came out after that...

are your midi cables plugged in properly?

remember, OUT on the L6 goes to the IN, and IN on the L6 goes to the OUT on the cable! ?
Just in case you might have overlooked this...

Thanks - something I would do, but believe it or not I did read the manual! ? I think its something to do with the cheapie cable I am using
