Psean Nitebob wrote That's pretty well relic'd.... :sorry: ☹ I don't think relic'd even begins to describe it... Wow, that neck/headstock area :'(
vic Chabenda wrote Looks like it was bought from a deceased estate - Tutankhamun's! :roflmao: :roflmao: .....handed down to him by dad Akhenaten following a raid on the Hettites (this really made my day !)

vic Here's a restored example http://www.ebay.com/itm/1953-Gibson-ES-295-Not-a-reissue-the-real-deal-/120970285077?pt=Guitar&hash=item1c2a641015 and here's a museum quality one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-Gibson-ES-295-Museum-Quality-/160813739544?pt=Guitar&hash=item25713eee18

But he's not going to get his asking price. Also, wtf does "museum quality" mean? People who actually go to museums know that many if not most of the things in there are not in pristine condition.

I think in this context it means "original and unmolested" and fit to display in the Rock 'n Roll hall of fame..... LOL.
Nitebob Thanks Vic. If that one on ebay is worth $3400, the one pictured above, shouldn't be worth $3k. More along the line of $1.5k....BUT if I had R12465 ($1.5k at current exchange rate)....I wouldn't spend it on that guitar. I don't think it will ever be 100%, then I'd rather buy something new, but that's just me...

singemonkey Well I wouldn't. But it's worth it to a skilled luthier ($2K, like I said). A new 297 is never going to be worth a damn, but the number of '50s ones is not getting any bigger. If the trend continues even the heavily modified/restored examples of less popular models are going to be worth a lot when the truly desirable ones are completely out of the range of mid-level collectors. You can safely assume that the guy selling at $3,500 probably paid around $1,000 or less for it. These can be turned into a profit. For example, I'd far rather have Reinhard's re-necked '60s 335 than a new one that's completely stock. So would most fans of Gibson guitars who know a bit about the history of their guitars. This guitar could be nicely restored - and you'd know it was from the same batch that Scotty Moore got his from. But it might still be better to replace the neck and possibly one side. But it's the top and the pickups that count. ?
