You see, that Kurt Darren song is the reason that I am ashamed of my taal. Flippen hell bru, what was you thinking?
I'm not ashamed of being an English speaker because somebody used it to write "Mama I Love You", "Agga-doo" or "Angelo". Get a grip, man! It's not yours or your language's fault if people use it to banal ends.

+1...Cannot blame Afrikaans for the way Jack Parow uses it...anymore that you can blame Toyota for the way a Taxidriver uses a Quantum.
Oooh...Robbie Wessels...
You guys are right of course, but I am alluding to a slightly different issue here. Every country has its laughing stock. When the Americans make jokes about backwards retards, they use the rednecks as their fodder. In South Africa the Afrikaans folk has taken on that character. Face it, we are the redneck trailer trash of South Africa. If a radio ad wants to portray a really stupid receptionist - she has an Afrikaans accent. If a TV ad wants to portray a dumb blonde who doesn't realise that she has chips on her plate because her knockers are obstructing her vision, she has an Afrikaans accent. That is the part that I am ashamed of and these guys are propagating that image.
Sure, you will find English songs with equally banal themes but I feel those are the exceptions that prove the rule. There definitely seems to be a disproportionate amount of really common Afrikaans songs. Maybe it is because I am Afrikaans speaking and every one such song that I hear feels closer to home and consequently irks me more.
