12" Alnico Heppner Speakers

Hi guys

Today I bought two 12" speakers that seems to be Heppner Alnico speakers.
What's interesting is that the cones are shaped differently, because the one is
designed for tone, and the other one is for lower frequencies.

The serial numbers on them are:

Bass: AO-24346-0 & 575436
Tone: AO-24347-0 & 575434

I searched the net for some info, and from what I could find it seems like they came
from an old L100 Hammond organ. I think...

Apparently they are great speakers for guitars, but they're only like 15 Watts, and
they're rated at 16 Ohm. Now I've got an old 50 Watt Eminence speaker, as well
as an old 25 Watt Celestion, both 8 Ohm's.

So now I'm planning a cab build(Preferrably 2 seperate 2 x 12 cabs), and would like
to know what I could do to get the most use out of these? Or are the combinations to different?

Oya, I'm guna be using it with a 100 Watt Marshall solid state...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

That Marshall would probably blow them in 2 seconds flat. Best thing you can do is to donate them to me. ?

What's the impedance of the amp? That's going to determine the possible combinations.

The speakers can handle 15W each or 30W together (same as the classic Celestions), so not really suited for a 100W amp even if you had four of them.

Price + shipping = $180

You could double up & look look for another pair to take you closer to 100W....

Cool speakers. They actually come from the L122, I also have a pair. Does your mid/treble voiced one have a 'whizzer' cone? Like a little mini cone around the dome? Does some funny things with guitar sounds.. Cut the one off of mine and it sounds much better..

The amp handles 4 Ohms.. It has two speaker outputs, but I'm only gonna use one. So now my plan has changed a bit.. I really want to have two seperate cabs for transport purposes. So I'm thinking of putting an input and output jack on both cabs, with the 2 Alnico speakers (combined 30 Watt). Which daisy chains to the top cab with the Celestion and the eminence (combined 75 Watt), which goes to speaker one of the amp? Ill have to put a few reistors in the wiring of the Alnico cab to get the ohms down to 8 / 4.. That will mean both cabs together will be 105 Watt? Would that help my case?

The amp power "follows" the impedance. So with 100W into 4 Ohms, if that load is made of two 8 ohm drivers in parallel, each will "see" half of the power (50W) - which means you can't use a 75W speaker and a 25W speaker to make 100W as the 25W speaker will still be getting 50W.

So your safest bet is still the single 50W 8 ohm driver.

Hmmm.... I see what you mean Allan. Thanks alot for the advice. Seems like I'll have to either make a trade or sell these two speakers... ☹ any takers...? :-\
