Guitar amp between 5kand 6k price range

Hi gents I have a Marshall 80W valvestate. I have between 5k and 6k for a new amp. Its the first time I am buying an amp new. Can you guys recommend a decent amp? I have a fender cust shop tele and a boss GT6, and play pop, jazz funk r&b and a use distorion on some songs. I need something that I can gig with. How would the Vox 50VT compare with my old Marshall? Is it worth it to go for the Vox 100 VT? Any help would be appreaciated.

Eish, youre looking for trouble with a question like that on the F! ? Expect a lot of replies!
What I would suggest first, is go and read Alan's article on amps and their wattage, which includes info on valves vs. analogue on Bothner's site. Its really insightful and gives you a benchmark to measure all the info against youre going to be swamped with. ?
My own 50 c: We all tend to buy amps that are too large...

Hmm... you're bound to get better advice from some of these experts than I can give you, but if you're planning to stay off the hectic gain, Vox's are the way I say. Actually tried a 50VT yesterday, and I loved its sound. As per usual though, go to the store, with your guitar and gear, plug it in and see for yourself.

The Valvetronix are GREAT, but not a true valve amp - they use a single 12AX7 valve just before the final power phase to "warm" the whole tone - your Marshall just uses the valve on the overdrive sound/channel.
Not REALLY a big upgrade in quality.

For the price you mention you could pick up 1 or 2 KILLER 2nd hand deals - think Peavey Classic 30 & ValveKing (more for heavy stuff on the 3nd one), Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (40 watt) and Blues Jnr. (15 watt) etc - 30 watts of PURE valve power will be way louder than your non-valve power Marshall.

Once you have the valve amp you may not need the GT-6 - OR you can use a full valve amp (eg Hot Rod) as a complete power slave for power to warm up the GT-6 if you use a lot of the effects.

With the GT6 I went for the cleanest sound amp I could get usually a Roland JC 50. Spend a long time programming the pedal's amp simulations till you are really happy and buy a decent powered monitor to go out through. On stage try to claim a stereo channel off the PA, the one the keyboards usually gets (GT6 sounds waaay better in stereo).

I picked up my 50W Peavey Valveking for round about that price... Man what an improvement over the valvestate I used to use. I'll never get rid of it ?

WOW thank guys for all this info. Riot I was thinking of going for the VOX VT series as well. However I need soemthing that has the same or more power than my 80W marshall valvstate. So I was thinking of going with the VOX 100VT. I will be using the clean channel mostly. Vintage Vibe- I have been scanning Gumtree for the past 6 weeks and could not find any decent amps on sale - Maybe just unlucky I guess. Please let me know if you know of any. Also, If I understand you correctly, I could buy a 30W valve amp and it would be louder than my 80w solid state. I have read the article on Bothner's site, but I was a bit sceptical. I will also look at the PEavy amps now (Thanks Garth S). They seem a lot cheaper.

Rene Songs - That is another good idea. I havent gotten it right to get a decent sound off my GT6's amp COSM amp simulators. Probably cause I dont spend enough time playing around with the pedal.

yeah thats rite, i've heard VV's 15W all-valve orange...quite different to my 15w solidstate marshall (understatement of the century)

Since you have the GT-6, maybe you should consider just getting a valve poweramp.

I think the cheapest one is a Crate TB100 (not sure), but there are a lot of other ones available.

You could use your GT-6 as a pre-amp and then hook it up to a poweramp, but you'll probably have to buy a new cab aswell.....

so just ignore me....
