The regulars already have a hotter bridge pickup that balances nicely with the other two, but the HX-85 in the Plus set is a real shitkicker. Chris calls it "almost a P90" and I can only agree.
Ah, I didn't know the regular set already had a hotter bridge, admitedly I was over-excited when the set came available, I just went for it. I do like the (cackle) 'shitkicker' nature of the bridge ?. I'd someday like to try the Kinman P90, but that's a way off, have some fixings to do on my headless hohners before that becomes a reality. I do find that with the K7 mod, a +/-70% bleed of neck to bridge tames the bite of the bridge, while +/-30% retains a touch of the bite - I'd guess not nearly as smooth as a standard or blues set, but enough for my lack of subtely.
Gareth knows his Clapton tones, but I think Woodstocks and a mid boost will be too much of a good thing.
Opps, not to misquote Gaz - I meant that the active circuit was an alternative to the Kinmans (just in case slyd was not quite sold on Kinmans yet) - it's still something I'd like to do with the stock pup's in a project strat, in a very distant future.
I know what you mean, but at least at the end of it all, you have a very clear idea of what you like.
Yeah, it was fun & educational to do the research, mod, play, chat and repeat - my first time modding a guitar to taste, only body, trem block and neck remains of the original. Although waiting three weeks for the perfectionist Gaz to find just the right part for the treble mod taught me patience...
Careful - they tend to be quirky. ?
Hehe, noted ?, actually only realised in the "GOTO guitar' thread that such a beast existed - Next time, I'd like to get my hands dirty. Aside from the re-fret, I reckon I can do a reasonable job on a project guitar - luckily Gaz is patient with fixing my mistakes.
