Hi,

Have been playing Upright (Double) Bass for some 35 years - Bluegrass (Blacksmith Band), Trad Jazz, Rockabilly. Also acoustic guitar. Recently acquired a Cort Squareneck Resonator Guitar. I always loved and wanted to play Squareneck so am frantically cramming in the practice to catch up on lost years. Circumstances mean it has to be self-taught via internet "teachers". Feel a bit isolated at the moment.

I only know of one other square neck player in SA, but he is more into pedal steel. I live in Cape Town and would like to make contact with fellow Squareneck Resonator aficionados in SA.

BTW - also would like to hear from Rockabilly Bassists. I may be a bit too old to strut the Rockabilly moves on stage but find it such a driving sound - well, who knows.

Cheers,

Stefan
Welcome to the forum! Wow - variety sure is the spice of life! Good luck in your search!
You are not alone! There are square neck players up here in Jo'burg, and the country's best music writer (present company excepted) Richard Haslop has been known to indulge a little down in Durban. Richard Bruyns, who works at Music Connection, actually has a CD out and is considering another. He also plays actual gigs ? Solo, or with various combinations of other players. Is the other player you allude to Sez Adamson? He's an excellent pedal steel player, and I've heard that he's not too shabby on lap steel either.

      Hi, and chin up ?

        Interesting stuff... Welcome!!
          Hi there
Not sure how to introduce myself with a new post so I used reply?
Have always wanted to play guitar but not a natural musician. So I have to really try hard and practise a lot. Mostly accoustic and always trying to better my electric guitar ability. Blues type is my passion but I like other types also.
Currently down in Cape Town/Langebaan. So yes I am a keen amateur!
My accoustic is an old Seagull that I bought off Dan Patlansky years ago - what a great guitarist
          Tks
