Internet Service Provider?

I am sure we discussed this before, but can't find much with the search facility.

I currently use Neotel( the 3G Card Package) , which just about works, slow during the day and flies after midnight.

I need to get something faster and more reliable

There are obviously a couple of options -

ADSL - My question here would be - Is it better to go with Telkom or a regular provider like Afrihost etc. I like the idea of paying just one provider for line rental and data bundle. Who would you reccomend?

Iburst - Seems to have a cheap option, but how good is it?

I use ADSL with Telkom, they are fairly consistent and the download speeds are reasonably good. I'm quite happy with them, and there telephonic support is quite good.

Same here ...... they own all the lines, so ........ used to be with Mweb until about a year ago, endless grief!!!!

I use Afrihost, who do decent bundled packages quite a bit cheaper than Telkom. Hellkom only get my normal line rental and voice charges.

There is another ISP the guys over on My Broadband usually recommend, but I can't remember who it is offhand.

I was surprised that Cybersmart is actually cheaper than Telkom, even though you still use the Telkom infrastructure. I'm quite happy with Cybersmart and can recommend them with a clear conscience.

One thing is for sure, if I could get this service without the Telkom infrastructure, I would pay more and take it. I try to avoid dealing with Telkom as much as possible. When I do get a line failure, I phone Cybersmart and have them sort it out with Telkom, I refuse to deal with those circus animals directly.

Ive been on vodacom 3g since ive been back,theyre a pain in the ar#@ 'cause they know they are the largest
ive just changed to 8ta 60+60 for 12mths,R1800
works out to R150/mth for 5gb/mth daytime and an xtra free 5gb/mth after 11pm till 5am or use it all in one go if you a download sl#t..LOL
i just swopped the sim card,all works fine on vodacom software,carrier name is 65502 instead of vodacom 3g
Its fast with HSUPA in metro areas,HSDPA and 3g in others
I reccomend to check your area 1st though...
I now use it in a wi fi modem and connect all my fones and laptops etc to it,easy peasy..LOL
If you have a landline then ADSL is the go if you dont need mobility

I can also recommend cybersmart. I was with them for a few years. They have a "grow for life" service where your cap grows by 1-3MB a day. I ended up on a 2G cap with all my "free" data making up the rest.

I'm now on the 8ta 10Gig package. Good speed and 10G is more than enough for me usually. I find myself trying to finish it at the end of the month. Plus it's cheaper than having to pay for a Telkom line (which I never used, was a total waste of money) and ADSL line rental, plus your package. I went from spending >R500pm to just R199 and got faster speed and a bigger cap.
Only issue is that my 3G wifi router and the modem card thingamajob don't really get on too well and I find myself restarting the router quite a lot.

I use MWEB. It cost me R329.00 per month which is uncapped. If you sighn a one year contract they throw in a WiFi router.

Been through stacks of ISPs myself and I'm on uncapped Afrihost at the moment. I've been very very happy with them and their prices are pretty good. Top notch support too. Would take something really special from another ISP to make me change.

I'm with iBurst. 10gig + another 10gig midnight to morning (8:00am if I'm not mistaken) for R199pm. It's frustrating, since it can be blissfully quick the one moment, and hellishly slow the next... It's generally good for everything but YouTube lately.

Pay about 1K for the whole thing
And I can (and do) download around 6-8 GB of data per day.

I opted for mweb to deal with telkom. Since my better half and daughter discovered online games on facebook, I am happy with the uncapped. If you need speed, you can pay a bit more. I opted for the cheapest contract because it is fine for me.
